Developing the mental edge:
Positive Self Talk
We all have an inner critic, and it is common to have negative thoughts about ourselves, but we should get in the practice of constantly making positive self-statements. Every time we become aware of negative self-talk, we should practice substituting those thoughts with positive self-thinking.
Instead of thinking "what will everyone think if I do poorly", I like to think "I hope you're all ready for the show I'm about to put on".
Instead of thinking "I wonder if my competition is better than me", I like to think "this is my day, everyone else should have stayed home".
Instead of thinking "training is tough and everything hurts", I like to think "this is what it takes to achieve what I truly want".
Instead of thinking "what if I fail", I like to think "I have trained hard, I know my abilities, and how great will it feel when I succeed".
